Assassinated by gunshot on  April 15, 1865  at the Ford Theatre in Washington, D.C.
. . . first American President to be assassinated. Andrew Johnson became President.   

Lincoln was the first president from the Republican Party.

"The will of the nation, speaking with the voice of battle and through the amended Constitution, has fulfilled the great promise of 1776 by proclaiming "liberty throughout the land to all the inhabitants thereof."

Excerpt from Inaugural speech of James  A. Garfield delivered  on March 4, 1881 by James A Garfield, 20th President of the United States.

Assassinated by gunshot on July 2 1881 in Washington, D.C., died  on September 19, 1881.

He was a Republican Party President.

Vice President Chester A. Arthur  became President

Chester A. Arthur's tenure as the 21st president of the United States began on September 19, 1881, when he succeeded to the presidency upon the assassination of President James A. Garfield, and ended on March 4, 1885. Arthur, a Republican, had been vice president for 199 days when he succeeded to President.

"Now I have the satisfaction to announce that the Congress just closed has reduced taxation in the sum of $41,000,000. Then there was deep solicitude because of the long depression in our manufacturing, mining, agricultural, and mercantile industries and the consequent distress of our laboring population.

Now every avenue of production is crowded with activity, labor is well employed, and American products find good markets at home and abroad."

Excerpt
from the Second Inaugural speech delivered on March 4, 1901 by William McKinley, 24th President of the United States.

Assassinated by gunshot on  September 6, 1901, in Buffalo, New York at the Pan-American Exposition, he died eight days later on September 13,1901.

Republican Party President.

Vice President Theodore Roosevelt then became President.

"If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich."

Excerpt from the Inaugural speech delivered  January 20, 1961 by John F. Kennedy,   35th President of the United States.

Assassinated by gunshot on November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas.
Vice President Lyndon Baines Johnson because President.

Kennedy was a Democratic Party member standing for transparency in government, before  the party became corrupted.

NON- PRESIDENTIAL ASSASSINATIONS

"I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed:
'We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.'"
                     . . ."And if America is to be a great nation this must become true."

Martin Luther King Jr.'s
"I Have A Dream"  speech was delivered on the steps at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC on August 28, 1963.

Assassinated by gunshot on April 4, 1968 in Memphis Tennessee.

"There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask why... I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?" 

Senator Robert F. Kennedy  won the California Primary .  At his campaign headquarters  in  the  Ambassador Hotel, he was prepared to give his acceptance speech and to outline his  bid to become President of the United States. 

Assassinated by gunshot on June 5, 1968 in Los Angeles, California.
