The legendary Butterfly that magnificent winged Lepidoptera
Has been written about throughout history in every era
Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs record this beautiful species
The splendor of butterflies is so far and vast in its reaches
With a legendary endurance and timeless beauty it teaches
Throughout history they have left an indelible mark
Written about with wonder replete in literary art
A Butterfly landing on you is said to bring you luck
Their soft invasion will have you quite awe struck
Believed to be personifications and soul reincarnations
Fairies were brought to life by dainty Butterfly inspirations
No beginning or ending to the abundant Butterfly's legacy
Woven into our psyche their beauty penetrates like therapy
Transforming us with knowledge of miraculous metamorphosis
Inspirational morphology revered, studied and hard to resist
Engaging our minds in wonderment of this mysterious fact
Holding us absorbed in fascinating beauty and engrossing rapt
As we gaze upon a Butterfly recalling legends told
Contemplating deeply as we search our minds and soul
Regarding the Butterfly's exquisite symbol representing rebirth
Sought after by ordinary people in every culture on earth
In Greek the very word Butterfly means "soul" or "mind"
Butterflies are nature's endowment and a gift to mankind
Holding us in trances of deep purple reflective rapture
Beauty so graceful it sets our hearts in splendid capture
Butterflies can even evoke spontaneous laughter ablaze
Wings with "eyes" and beautiful abstract patterns that amaze
Spoken about in fictional stories symbolizing God's favor
Watching their delicate flight like a dream lost in white vapor
Caterpillar's chrysalis in silken cocoons to be found
As they emerge into surrealistic beauty that astounds
Silver Kings, Skippers, Painted Ladies and Monarchs
Such an historically alluring insect that induces sparks
On their long distance flights from Canada and US to Mexico
Some destined for the well-known butterfly fauna of Tobago
The Swallowtails, Emperors and Caribbean species
So many varieties to see all vibrant and sure to please
Of legendary colors abounding in an elegant vision
So absolutely timeless and filled with sure precision
Oh, the Red Pierrot, White Peacock and Duke of Burgundy
In blues, coppers, sienna, yellows and roses of Plum Judy
Unique wings for flight swooping in graceful rhythm
An array of colors that keeps us from feeling glum
Butterflies travel to destinations over thousands of miles
Bringing all that gaze upon very delightful amusing smiles
More than 18,000 species, it's a worldly paradise unfolding
Secrets of the Butterfly and the magic that they're holding
Just go outside for a long leisurely walk and fill up your eyes
With the calming fanciful splendor that can be captured in Butterflies
