"As soon as you trust yourself, you will know how to live"

The Old Used Bookstore

Inside the faded walls of an old used bookstore
Those old walls speak and all the stories they tell
Are silently set among dusty shelves and a unique smell
Written upon historic old paper, black ink with copyrights
Enticing the imagination to soar and take flight

Filled with many treasures of ancient lore
Nothing compares to an old used bookstore
Whether in London England on Bell Street
Or Scotland's Books and Beans in Aberdeen
Stepping through the door, another era you greet
That magical atmosphere of being in another time
Is very intoxicating and completely prime

This is a world of unbelievable treasures galore
Inside the etiolated faded walls of this old bookstore
You're given over to the distinct musty smell, sight and touch
Eyes widen as you search through the books you crave so much
As you patiently move among the rows of old wooden shelves
Passing, you gently nod to the erudite people within
Your excitement starts escalating and you begin
Meticulously seeking a book, as you delve

You're searching for a lost book about the British Luddites
An important movement beginning in circa eighteen eleven
Ending in eighteen sixteen it began the dialogue on "rights"
Concerned with "elimination or subordination of the natural world"
You begin thinking "we're out of control in a spinning whirl"!
You find supporting philosophies penned to make the world better
Among them Borgman, Ellul, Dreyfus and Martin Heidegger

You wince and think, "how did this knowledge became so downtrodden"?
All the writers pleading, trying to inform and intellectually broaden
Uplifting words to stop the loss of indifference of our awe and wonder
Scholars of old teaching the importance of understanding and seeing
In a modern world of consumption where people are just dismissed
Now put aside, asunder, lost and buried, forgotten and sorely missed
Warnings in the writings coined the "Abandonment of Being"

Inside those faded walls of an old used bookstore
Is a lost world of dusty treasures passionately meant to implore
Educate and inform disseminating timeless information of the ages
All found within the old and fading paper, ink and copyrighted pages
You're at home among the young and old seekers and scholarly erudite
Thinking of your day spent turning up information on the Luddite

Your senses reminisce as you inhale the smell and note the atmosphere
Time to go, purchase made, treasure in hand now thoughts of reading near
Afternoon well spent, you hesitantly push open the heavy wooden door
Stepping into street of concrete outside, you silently disappear
You know you'll come again to feast on timeless wisdom and more
Waiting within the faded walls of the old used bookstore
